B I O G R A P H Y Once a singer-songwriter playing the L.A. club circuit and fielding offers from various record labels, today Rockstar Jonnyboy has become one of tv's "go-to" composers and music supervisors. Jon’s credits include work for MTV, VH1, NBC, FOX, the WB, TV Land, Game Show Network, A&E, FX, among many others. Most recently Jon scored and music supervised "Laguna Beach: The Real OC" for MTV, as well as it's breakout hit spinoff, "The Hills". Jon’s move into the television arena began with his gig as musical director of MTV’s hit game show “Singled Out,” which during five successful seasons brought him international recognition for his on-air role as “Pianoboy.” This job was the first of many projects (“The X Show,” "Ball2K",“MTV Bash: Carson Daly”) in which Jon not only composed but also appeared on camera as musical director and/or regular cast member. Following “Singled Out,” Jon began scoring episodes of VH1’s top-rated “Behind the Music” series and ultimately worked on most of the episodes produced. As a recording artist, Jon collaborated with producer/co-writer Bob Marlette (whose own diverse credits encompass Saliva, Sheryl Crow, Ozzy Osbourne, Tracy Chapman and Rob Halford), to record a collection of melodic modern rockers. Although Jon originally made his mark as a keyboardist, these tracks are characterized by his distinctively emotive vocals and superb guitar work. Jon’s original songs have been featured in several independent feature films as well as in the Fox drama's "Criminal Minds", “Boston Public” and many other network series. Jon was also featured on Fox’s classic prime-time soap “Melrose Place,” in an episode in which he performed two of his songs and acted in a key scene, playing himself. Jon worked the L.A. club scene for several years, having played such noted venues as the House of Blues, the Troubadour, the Mint, Genghis Cohen, and others. Born in Chicago, Jon began his singing career at age 5. “My first performance was in kindergarten,” he recalls. “I was the only kid with the balls to belt out ‘Puff the Magic Dragon.’ ” Jon had just entered his teens when his family moved to Boulder, Colo., where Jon did such classic repertory as “Fiddler on the Roof” and “The King and I” on the dinner theater circuit. Inevitably, though, a taste for the fast lane led Jon to hit the road with a band called Elik Pink and the Dolls. “It was great,” Jon reminisces fondly. “All the guys in the band were in their 20s except me – I was 14. Needless to say, I grew up pretty quickly.” After studying at Boston’s renowned Berklee College of Music, Jon paid his way through the University of Florida by keeping his tip jar full at regular piano bar gigs. In fact, this source of income was to pay the rent for many years to come. “Playing in piano bars, you get to know the standards,” Jon says. “I can play ’em all.” In February 1995, Jon noticed a flyer in a Santa Monica clothing store that read: “MTV is looking for Generation X’s Paul Shaffer.” After two rounds of auditions, Jon landed the gig on mtv's “Singled Out.” And the rest is of course...
